In December 2023, DP World Foundation proudly partnered with Noor Dubai Foundation to launch a transformative eye campaign in Berbera and Bossaso, Somaliland. This heartfelt initiative aims to bring hope and restore sight to thousands in need.
CAMPAIGN IMPACT
Together, we set out to make a profound difference in the lives of individuals suffering from cataracts, a leading cause of blindness worldwide. Our ambitious campaign had the following goals:
- 698 Cataract Surgeries
- 2134 Medications
- 622 Glasses
- 2779 Beneficiaries
By addressing these critical needs, we are committed to preventing blindness and reducing visual impairment in both local communities and beyond. This initiative falls within the health pillar of our foundation, underlining our dedication to supporting global health efforts.
THE CHALLENGE OF CATARACTS
Cataracts are a major cause of blindness, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where access to surgery is limited. The burden of disease and associated costs create significant barriers for those in need of treatment. Our campaign sought to alleviate these challenges by improving access to cataract surgery and reducing inequities in LMICs.
OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE
While our current efforts have made a positive impact, the journey is far from over. The modest reductions in cataract cases are a step in the right direction, meeting the optimistic forecasts of our campaign. We remain hopeful and dedicated to expanding our initiatives and campaigns to create even broader change in the future.
